Medical Director and Pain Management Physician


Job Summary:

Responsible for direct patient care by reviewing patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
Monitors activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services across sites or in the clinical service line, and will facilitate communication between physicians, site administration and employees. Key areas of focus include oversight of committee meetings, leading efforts to achieve quality measure goals, and to improve the quality of patient care and patient experience. Manages physician staff and manages budget for clinical service lines or across sites.

Key Position Details:

This position will be a practicing Physician for Allina Pain services which has locations in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Golden Valley. Actual clinical practice locations for this position to be determined at a later date. The role will also hold the title of Medical Director overseeing the current Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute Pain team as well as United Pain Center.

The role will have clinical oversight of the Physicians and Advanced Practice clinicians within United Pain and Courage Kenny Service Lines. Additionally, this role has system-wide accountability for optimal performance across Allina Health for the management for chronic and acute pain.

This position will spread its time as a 0.8FTE clinical practice and 0.2FTE administrative time (i.e. ~64 hours per pay period clinical practice and ~16 hours per pay period admin time).

Will oversee a team of Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers.

 

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

·       Medical Leadership in Clinical Service Line or Across Locations.

o Monitors activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services in the clinical service line or across sites.

o Facilitates communication between physicians, site administration and employees.

o Manages oversight of department committees.

o Leads efforts to achieve quality goals, and improve the quality of patient care and patient experience.

o Oversees the management of physicians across locations, including performance management, staffing, evaluation, and hiring decisions.

o Conducts orientation for new physicians, and ongoing education for physicians.

o Partners with organization leadership to coordinate various teams to execute policies and agendas.

o Manages budget and financial performance for the physician services.

o May guide other physicians in their patient treatment decisions.

o May participate in additional medical staff committees, and system committees and initiatives.

o May provide input into hiring and promotion decisions for unit staff.

o May conduct education for physicians and staff.

 

Direct Patient Care.

o Reviews patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.

o Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.

o Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.

o Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.

o Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.

o Charts in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope.

o Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.

o May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, inpatient or outpatient hospital setting.

o May participate in on-call rotation.

Quality.

 

o Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in the delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or workflows.

o May participate in peer review and quality assurance.

o Other duties as assigned.

 


Job Requirements

·       Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine required and

·       Completed a residency program as applicable to their clinical specialty required

·       7+ years of demonstrated experience in designated specialty required

·       Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire and

·       ACLS-BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required within 180 Days and

·       PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Multisource required depending on business unit upon hire and

·       NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Multisource required depending on business unit upon hire

·       Licensed Physician - WI upon hire required and

·       Board Certification in specialty that this role is leading upon hire required and

·       Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate upon hire required and

·       Prescription Monitoring Program upon hire required and

·       National Provider Identifier upon hire required
